BASIC SKINCARE THAT EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW

While there is a plethora of information on skincare readily available at the fingers, it can be quite daunting on knowing where and how to start, especially for newbies who have never given much thought about skincare and have perhaps relied solely on good genes or tried and tested products from adolescents to keep their skin looking and feeling decent.

Here is the truth, there is a high probability that the clean&clear or neutrogena (the orange one in the clear bottle) cleansers from your pubescent days of endless zits and breakouts are no longer meeting the needs of your now “grown-up” skin so are no longer as effective as it was due to the body’s need to regenerate itself and changes in lifestyle.

Although, this may be a bit hard to come to terms with, the good news is there is an abundance of products and education to help you maintain or transform your skin to meet your needs.

Here are the 4 steps and products to invest in for a basic skincare routine:

01. CLEANSE

A good cleanser, one that suits your skin type (normal, dry, oily or combination skin) is an essential first step that is needed in everybody’s routine.

The Ordinary’s Glucoside Foaming Cleanser is an Allure beauty ward winning effective cleanser that is formulated for all skin types to gently cleansed without stripping moisture.

For best results, cleanse twice daily for up to 60 seconds using lukewarm water and gently pat the face dry using a clean face towel to help maintain the skin’s integrity.

02. TONE

The purpose of Toner is to rebalance the skin’s pH after cleanser and remove oils to further prepare the skin to prepare the skin for the products that follow.

Currently, toners containing glycolic acid are all the rage due to its brightening properties, a key ingredient in fading dark spots/hyperpigmentation.

The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner is a multi-purpose trendsetter that is formulated for all skin types and can be used on the face to help even out the skin-tone tone and scalp to hydrate to promote hair health.

Tone twice daily after cleansing and before applying treatments and moisturisers.

03. MOISTURISE

A moisturiser is an essential product in a skincare routine to nourish and hydrate the skin. This is also, one of the key steps to minimise the signs of ageing.

Bolden’s Brightening Moisturiser SPF30 with Vitamin C is one that thoroughly hydrates for a dewy, natural glow. Its also gentle enough to use twice daily for optimum brightening results.

04. PROTECT

No matter the complexion, an SPF30+ sunscreen is an everyday must to both help protect the skin from harmful UVA+UVB rays and to ensure you obtain maximum results for achieving your skincare goals.
Black Girl Sunscreen SPF30 is suitable for dry and combination skin types while Make It Matte SPF 45 Sunscreen works well on oily or blemish-prone skin.

For maximum results, sunscreen should be apply every 2 hours while outdoors.
